A FORMER prosecutor has been re-arrested after being accused of trying to poison her husband with fentanyl a fourth time while out on bond.

Sara Baker, 75, from Mountain Brook, Alabama, was initially arrested in November after allegedly lacing her husband James’ food and drink with the drug at least three times in September 2025.

Her 11 charges included attempted murder, domestic violence, and elder abuse, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Baker was released from custody after paying her $400,000 bond and it was during this time that it is alleged that she broke the conditions of her bail and tried to drug her husband again.

The former assistant district attorney has been married to her husband James for 29 years, during which time he suffered a debilitating stroke that turned Baker into his sole caregiver.

Prosecutors claimed on Friday that Baker tried to poison his medication when she visited him while on bond, which goes against the conditions of her release.

Per court documents seen by AL.com, it is alleged that on June 11, Baker spoke to one of her husband’s caregivers to get an empty medicine bottle from the house.

The mother and grandmother then allegedly returned the container a week later containing 12 grams of purple powder that tested positive for fentanyl.

The bag she allegedly handed over also contained instructions to put the bottle in a safe place at the residence, prosecutors claim.

After placing the bottle in a safe at the property, the caregiver contacted police.

In court, James shockingly supported his wife, telling the judge that she did not breach her conditions.

“I have no idea why we’re here today, we kept that clean all the way,” he said, adding that via his attorney and the county district attorney, he begged to be allowed to see her.

The judge ruled that despite not physically making contact with her husband, Baker broke her bond conditions by trying to get the container of drugs into her husband’s home.

“Specifically, she committed a new criminal offense by transporting to, and storing at the victim’s residences, a large amount of the drug, fentanyl,” he wrote in the order to revoke her release.

“The continued release of the defendant poses a risk to public safety and no set of conditions will reasonably assure compliance with the court’s orders regarding the defendant’s bond.”

He added that the similarity of the new alleged crime to those she already faces charges for was “especially alarming.”

Baker remains in custody at Cullman County Jail and is due to undergo psychological testing after pleading not guilty to all charges due to a mental disease or defect.
