Aaron Ramsey’s horror leg break was so painful he dislocated his JAW screaming and didn’t know if he’d walk again
Former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey has revealed that he dislocated his jaw from screaming in agony after snapping his leg against Stoke City.
The Welsh icon went on to make the Euro 2016 Team of the Tournament, but thought his career could have been over following the freak injury in February 2010.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Ramsey disclosed: “I didn’t know if I would walk again, never mind play football.”
Both player and club were left shaken by the horrific leg break.
In the aftermath of the tibula and fibula fracture, Gunners coach Arsene Wenger said in an interview: “Ramsey is as low as you can be when this happens to you and you are flying.”
“We were all very sad and very down after what happened to him.”
Ramsey subsequently won three FA cups in North London, before securing the Serie A title with Italian super club Juventus.
However, he is stuck with a permanent reminder of Ryan Shawcross’s rash tackle.
As the Euro semi-finalist told the Telegraph: “Still got the metal [rod] in there and [in] hot and cold temperatures it flares up now and again.”
“It’s part of me.”
After calling time on a glittering playing career this April, the 35-year-old is about to embark on a new footballing odyssey.
At the end of June, Ramsey was appointed head coach of League One‘s Oxford United.
But his budding managerial career will have to combat two immediate crises.
Not only were Oxford relegated last season, they are also under a temporary transfer embargo until January.
Despite the short-term hurdles, Ramsey is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former teammate Mikel Arteta.
The Premier League winning coach helped inspire Ramsey to earn his coaching badges, and the Welshman recently enjoyed an unofficial stint on the touchlines with his national team.
