The club have now added Jack Ruddy just five weeks after he left Norwich City.

The goalkeeper, 18, takes after his father John who was a stopper during his playing days.

John Ruddy, 39, starred in the Premier League for the likes of Norwich City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.

He only left the Prem at the end of last season once his contract at St James’ Park expired.

Ruddy was a team-mate of Coventry boss Lampard as they were both picked for England in 2012.

They played together in the 2-1 friendly win over Italy in Bern, Switzerland.

Phil Jagielka and Jermain Defoe scored the goals for the Three Lions that day as they came from behind after Daniele De Rossi‘s opener.

Jack posed for a picture on the pitch at the Coventry Building Society Arena and it was shared on Instagram by his mum Laura.

She wrote: “We couldn’t be prouder of you Jack! Wishing you the very best with Coventry City.

“Football isn’t always easy, and the last few years have taught you resilience, patience and how to keep believing in yourself.

“Even without the consistency and stability every young player needs to develop and thrive.

“Through it all, you’ve continued to work hard, stay focused and never lose sight of your dream.

“Now it’s time for a new beginning, fresh opportunities and, most importantly, to enjoy football again.

“Good luck Jack! We know you will give everything, as you always have, and we can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings.”

Coventry start their season with arguably the toughest test possible – against Arsenal at the Emirates on August 21.

They then host Hull City in their second league game the following weekend.

Before then, the club has pre-season friendlies against LaLiga outfit Espanyol and French giants AS Monaco.
