Moment drunk motorcyclist, 19, slams into man, 22, after spending hours in pub – leaving him with life-changing injuries
THIS is the moment a motorcyclist smashes into a pedestrian after spending several hours in the pub, leaving him with life-changing injuries.
Liam Kenny, who had no driving licence or insurance, drove his mate’s bike above the speed limit after he drank six pints and took cocaine.
Kenny, 19, spent several hours drinking at the Ship Inn in Hartlepool, Durham, before taking the bike.
Footage shows him knocking back pints at a bar at around midday.
He ordered his last drink at 6.30pm, before walking out with it in his hand and taking his mate’s Yamaha for a ride.
CCTV then captures him speeding down the road on May 10 last year.
Ryan Cameron was out helping his mum deliver pizzas and closed the door to his parked car before he waited next to it for traffic to pass.
The 22-year-old leans back into the car as he spots the bike hurtling towards him.
In the blink of an eye, Kenny crashes into Ryan, then into two parked cars behind him.
Bits of the motorcycle are seen scattered all over the road in the aftermath.
Horrified members of the public rushed to help as Kenny fled the scene and left him lying in the road.
Ryan – who has learning difficulties – was airlifted to hospital and left with life-changing injuries.
He underwent emergency treatment, and later required ongoing neurorehabilitation – a highly specialized medical process designed to restore function.
It is usually used to treat strokes, traumatic brain injuries and multiple sclerosis.
He suffered a fractured skull, a number of bleeds to his brain, and a broken jaw.
Ryan’s dad said Kenny’s actions “boil my blood to this day”.
“The only thing going through my head at that time was I needed to get up there for him and make sure my boy is okay.
“Knowing that Liam Kenny had left my son in the road after the accident, trying to get up it still boils my blood.”
Ryan is now “totally dependent on his family” as he has memory impairment, emotional dysregulation, and is unable to work because of his brain injury.
His family are raising awareness of dangerous driving after the collision.
After the crash, Kenny went to hospital claiming he fell down the stairs, but when staff asked him how much he had to drink, he became abusive and left without treatment.
Bodycam footage from his arrest heard Kenny say: “Yeah I have had a drink, I told you.”
Kenny was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 51 months.
He was almost four-and-a-half times over the legal limit for alcohol and 12 times over the legal limit for benzoylecgonine, which is linked to cocaine use.
The owner of the motorcycle, 22-year-old Adam Nixon, was convicted in August 2025 of permitting the use of a vehicle without a licence and insurance, as well as drug driving.
He was disqualified from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay a fine and costs.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Aileen Ward, from the Matrix Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This case highlights the devastating consequences that dangerous driving can have on individuals, families and communities.
“This was a 20mph area designed to protect the public, yet Liam Kenny chose to ignore the law.
“Driving under the influence and at speed significantly impairs judgement and reaction times, putting lives at serious risk.
“We want this case to serve as a clear warning: choosing to drive or ride while under the influence, or to ignore speed limits, can destroy lives, including your own. It is simply not worth the risk.
