Desperate hunt for Fort Bragg soldier Sayveon Anderson, 25, who vanished 2 weeks ago as mom reveals last message details
THE family of a US soldier are desperately searching for answers after the 25-year-old vanished two weeks ago.
Sayveon Anderson was last seen in Fort Bragg, North Carolina on June 29, and his family said it is unusual for him to go this long without contacting anyone.
Anderson’s mother Pamela Anderson spoke with ABC affiliate WTVD, saying his disappearance is unlike him.
“This is not like my son,” she said.
“My son will call me. He would at least text me or answer my texts.”
His sister, Shicora Anderson, said the 25-year-old has not used his phone or cards.
“Something’s not right. Something is not adding up,” she said.
Pamela last spoke with her son on June 27, then the next day he sent her an Instagram message, but she has not heard from him since, despite repeated attempts to reach him.
“I just want you to let me know that you’re okay,” his mother said.
Anderson has served in the US army for seven years, and is married with a baby on the way.
He was last seen around 6am on June 29 at Fort Bragg and reportedly didn’t show up for formation. He was reported absent without leave on July 1.
The 3rd Corps Sustainment Command is coordinating alongside the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and local law enforcement to bring Anderson home to his loved ones.
Jasmyne Mowry, his wife, who is nine months pregnant, said Anderson has been struggling with his mental health for months, but shebelievess he is alive.
“He has been showing that he is not mentally well,” she told WRAL News.
Mowry said Anderson is expected to report to the Charge of Quarters, which is responsible for maintaining order, handling emergencies and securing barracks, every four hours.
“Someone wasn’t doing their job if they saw him and let him leave,” she said.
Mowry last saw her husband on June 23 at home in Fayetteville, leaving with other soldiers and possibly heading back to Fort Bragg.
Pamela told WTVD that he is actively stationed at the base but does not live on Fort Bragg, and was set to begin a weeklong assignment.
Anderson had been living in a barracks on Fort Bragg earlier in the year after an alleged domestic altercation with Mowry, Pamela told CBS affiliate WNCN.
A no-contact order was issued, but the case was later dismissed and Pamela said the pair reconciled.
Just two days before he vanished, Anderson told his mother that his wife wanted a divorce, Pamela told WNCN.
Four days before he vanished, Anderson was arrested at a Comfort Inn in Fayetteville and charged with second-degree trespassing and resisting arrest. He posted a $5,000 bond, per WRAL.
Police alleged that the 25-year-old refused to leave his hotel room when his payment for another night’s stay declined.
Mowry told WRAL that her husband went to the hotel because he needed a break.
“He was feeling a lot of pressure. He didn’t want people to know how bad it was getting,” she said.
“That’s what you do with mental health – you hide until you can’t handle it anymore.”
Pamela described Anderson to WNCN as a young soldier battling mental health issues while trying to navigate life outside of the military.
She said he is also looking forward to becoming a father, with a baby girl coming in August.
“He wouldn’t just disappear. You know you have all these big events coming up — the baby shower, the birth of his daughter,” she said.
Shicora, Anderson’s sister, told WNCN the family is desperate for answers and not getting any.
“We not getting answers. We not getting the help that we need to find him,” she said. “He’s just a young man. A young Black man in the Army trying to make it.”
His family said Anderson can be identified by a scar on one of his arms, a chipped front tooth and a tattoo with Jasmyne’s name on it.
Anderson is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 270 pounds.
