“THEY NEED TO BE RECOGNIZED…” — PRINCE HARRY RECALLS THE HEARTWARMING WAY QUEEN ELIZABETH SPOKE ABOUT ARCHIE AND LILIBET DURING THEIR FINAL VISIT Prince Harry has shared a rare reflection on how Queen Elizabeth II spoke about her great-grandchildren, Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex, during what is understood to be one of their final in-person family encounters. According to Harry, the late monarch had a gentle, affectionate way of referring to the children that left a lasting impression on him — a private family detail that has resurfaced in public conversation as memories of her reign continue to be revisited. The recollection has struck a particularly emotional chord with royal watchers, who see it as one of the few glimpses into the personal warmth behind a relationship often kept firmly away from public view. As the years pass since that final meeting, the memory of those small family moments continues to resonate — especially for a family still navigating distance, duty, and legacy.

Prince Harry said that Queen Elizabeth had two words to describe his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, during what proved to be their final meeting.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, reflected on the memory in his 2023 memoir Spare, writing about the “final visit” with his grandmother, where she met his daughter for what is believed to be the first and only time.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal roles in the U.K. in 2020 when Prince Archie was a baby and traveled back as a family of four in June 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

As he recalled processing his grandmother’s death, Harry wrote that he couldn’t stop picturing his son and daughter with the monarch.

“Archie making deep, chivalrous bows, his baby sister Lilibet cuddling the monarch’s shins. Sweetest children, Granny said, sounding bemused,” the Duke of Sussex said in Spare.

“She’d expected them to be a bit more… American, I think? Meaning, in her mind, more rambunctious,” he wrote.

Princess Lilibet was 1 when she met the Queen, who she was named after, while Prince Archie was 3 during the 2022 meeting. Archie is now 7, while Lili is 5.
