‘Practical Magic 2’ Replaces Traditional Post-Credits Scene with an Emotional Real-Life Sister Tribute

Kidman noted that producer Denise Di Novi originally suggested dedicating the sequel to their siblings, which both lead actresses immediately embraced. “They formed us,” Kidman told The Sydney Morning Herald. “Then I told Antonia, and I said, ‘So sit to the end’”.
Bullock emphasized the broader significance of acknowledging foundational family caregivers:
“I think honouring those who have taken good care of us is imperative. We always forget… from the ancestors, to the aunts, to the grandmothers, the mothers, the sisters, we need to say it, so they can hear it.”
Kidman Reflects on Family Grief and Resilience
For Kidman, the tribute carries added poignancy following the loss of both her parents since the release of the first film—her father, Dr. Antony Kidman, passed away in 2014, and her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, died in 2024.
Speaking to The Australian, Kidman reflected:
“I wish my mum was here to see it… I wish my dad was. It’s sort of like the film where things move on, you know? I’ve learned that you keep moving forward, that you embrace your own sense of who you are and what you are. Be honest about it, be truthful, and be willing to accept other people and change and morph and grow.”

The story picks up nearly three decades later, revealing that Sally’s husband Gary Hallet (played in 1998 by Aidan Quinn) tragically died off-screen, confirming that the ancestral Owens love curse was never permanently lifted.
