Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expected to bring their family to the U.K. for the first time in four years, and new details offer clues about where they may stay.

Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are believed to be accompanying their parents to the U.K. in July. Harry’s trip has long been in the works, as he is set to attend events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, which will take place July 10–17, 2027.

The timing has drawn attention to Althorp House, Princess Diana’s ancestral estate in West Northamptonshire, which is about an hour from Birmingham. The estate’s website notes that it will be closed to visitors next month on July 10 and 11, prompting speculation that Harry and his family could visit — or even stay at — the Spencer family home during their trip.

PEOPLE has reached out to a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Althorp is also where Princess Diana is buried, and with the family’s visit falling shortly after the late Princess of Wales’s July 1 birthday, it would be a significant visit for Harry, 41, Meghan, 44, and their children. (Lilibet’s middle name is Diana, after her late grandmother.)

Harry has previously stayed at Althorp, which is owned by his uncle, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, during visits to the U.K., including in August 2024 when he returned for the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes.

PEOPLE understands that King Charles, 77, has offered his younger son and his family accommodation on a royal estate during their potential U.K. visit. So far, however, no response has been received to the offer.

The King has made similar offers before. On previous visits, Harry was offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace, which he declined.

Even if Harry and his family were to stay on a royal estate, no additional security arrangements have been offered. Decisions about protective security are made by the Home Office, not the King. After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their royal roles in 2020, they lost their taxpayer-funded police protection — a decision Harry has repeatedly challenged in court, citing safety concerns for his family in the U.K.

No plans for a reunion between Harry and his father during the potential visit have been confirmed. However, the pair have met during previous U.K. trips. Most recently, they reunited at the King’s London residence on Sept. 10, 2025, while Harry was in Britain for the WellChild Awards and Invictus Games events. The private meeting lasted 55 minutes and marked their first face-to-face conversation in 19 months.

Harry and Meghan have only returned to the U.K. once with their children, in June 2022, for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee festivities, though Archie and Lilibet did not take part in any public events.

Additionally, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were visiting England for a series of charity events when the Queen died in September of that year, and they extended their stay to attend her funeral and the surrounding events.

In a statement to the High Court in London during a hearing in December 2023, Prince Harry said that he needed security for his two children “to feel at home” in his native country.

“The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States,” Harry said. “That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”

“I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too,” he added.

Tensions have seemed to thaw a bit in recent months. Prince Harry and King Charles reunited briefly in September 2025 while Harry was in the U.K. for the WellChild Awards and Invictus Games events. The father and son met for a 55-minute conversation at the King’s London residence, marking their first in-person meeting in 19 months.

Prince Harry previously told the BBC that he would “love reconciliation” with his family.

“There’s no point continuing to fight anymore; life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he continued, seemingly referring to the King’s cancer diagnosis, which was announced in 2024. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

In his 2023 memoir, Spare, Prince Harry wrote about bringing Meghan to visit his mother’s gravesite for the first time in 2022. The late princess is laid to rest on an island at the center of the ornamental lake known as The Round Oval within Althorp Park’s Pleasure Garden, making it easy to keep her gravesite off-limits to the public even though the estate welcomes visitors.

“No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… twenty-fifth anniversary. And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum,” Harry wrote about rowing his wife out to the memorial site.

“We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity,” he continued. “Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.”

“I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for,” Harry added. “Clarity, she said. And guidance.”
