Prince Harry was in the spotlight at the High Court in London on April 1st, 2025, where it was revealed that he had exchanged numerous Facebook messages with Charlotte Griffiths between late 2011 and early 2012.

According to documents presented in court, their conversations were personal, with Harry joking about “outdrinking” her and ending messages with affectionate words. Griffiths also mentioned a “fun weekend” when they met at a party.

However, Prince Harry claimed that at the time, he didn’t know Griffiths was a reporter for Mail on Sunday. Upon discovering the truth, he allegedly confronted friends who had introduced the two and immediately cut off contact with her.

These messages were presented during the final stages of a privacy lawsuit that Harry had filed against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. Harry, along with other public figures like Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, accused the publishing group of unlawful information gathering, though the defendant denied the allegations.

In her testimony, Griffiths revealed that she and Harry had attended a weekend party at the countryside hosted by one of Harry’s friends. Harry, however, denied that anyone in his close circle worked for the press, claiming he “did not make friends with journalists.”

During the 11-week trial, the plaintiff’s lawyers argued that many stories about Harry and other figures could only have been written by unlawfully obtained information. A final ruling by the judge is expected soon.

Harry also denied ever using a secret Facebook account under the alias “Mr. Mischief.” Documents showed that it was Griffiths who called him by that name in messages, not Harry himself.

One message from December 2011 reportedly said: “Hello Mr. Mischief. The weekend was so fun and a bit naughty – wish every weekend could be like that in the countryside, right?” This message was in response to one from Harry: “It’s H here, in case you’re wondering about the name and profile pic!!!”

In court, lawyers representing Associated Newspapers admitted they had mistakenly assumed that “Mr. Mischief” was an alias Harry had chosen.

In a message dated January 22, 2012, Griffiths mentioned she was in Klosters watching a snow polo match to raise funds for Harry’s charity, Sentebale. The Prince reportedly replied, saying he “wished he were there” but was in Cornwall on military duty, joking about potentially “drinking her under the table.” He ended with the message: “Hope you’re still okay. Miss those cuddly movie nights.”

Earlier in the trial, there were also claims that the two met at a party in Ibiza, but Harry denied this, stating that he only visited Ibiza with his wife Meghan and son Archie in 2019.

In her statement, Griffiths said she knew some of Harry’s friends, including Arthur Landon, and had interacted within high-society circles. She also mentioned that she met Harry through a mutual friend.

The final ruling in this case is expected to be announced in the near future.
