For nearly a decade, Megan Dixon says she felt like she was disappearing while doctors struggled to explain the terrifying condition slowly destroying her body.
Now, at just 21 years old, the young woman from Cambridgeshire is preparing to undergo the amputation of both legs after years of unimaginable pain caused her limbs to lock completely straight before eventually bending backwards at a shocking angle. What began as mysterious weakness during her early teenage years has now become a life-altering medical nightmare that has stunned thousands online.
According to reports, Megan’s health crisis first began when she was only 13 after suffering from whooping cough and glandular fever. But what initially seemed like an ordinary illness quickly spiraled into something far darker. Within months, her legs reportedly began failing without explanation, eventually locking rigidly into place until she could no longer walk.
As her condition worsened, Megan says she was repeatedly dismissed, misunderstood, or told the pain could be psychological. Meanwhile, her body continued deteriorating in ways even specialists reportedly struggled to understand. By the age of 16, she claims she had lost the ability to sit upright independently, began slipping into coma-like episodes, and eventually lost her speech, strength, and even portions of her eyesight during extended hospital treatment.

Doctors later diagnosed her with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition affecting how the brain sends and receives signals throughout the body. But by then, the damage had allegedly progressed so severely that surgeons could no longer reverse what had happened to her knees. Megan says one leg is now bent backward at nearly a 45-degree angle, while the second appears to be following the same devastating path.
The emotional reality of her daily life has horrified many readers following her story. Unable to walk since she was 14, Megan says even basic tasks have become excruciating. She reportedly has to drag herself across floors, rely on a wheelchair, and be physically carried for ordinary activities most people never think twice about. Every movement places unbearable pressure on joints she describes as feeling like they are “grinding together.”
After years of searching for answers, consulting multiple surgeons, and enduring relentless physical decline, Megan says doctors finally delivered the devastating conclusion she never wanted to hear: amputation had become the only remaining option.
The surgery is reportedly scheduled for later this year.
Despite the unimaginable decision ahead, Megan says she is now trying to focus on rebuilding some form of independence after spending years trapped by pain and paralysis. She has begun fundraising for an electric wheelchair and specialized equipment in hopes of reclaiming parts of the life she feels was stolen from her during her teenage years.
But what has shaken many people most is her warning to others.
For years, Megan says she felt something was deeply wrong inside her body while repeatedly being told to wait, push through the pain, or question her own instincts. Now, as she prepares to lose both legs at just 21 years old, she believes the delays in treatment may have changed her life forever.
