The Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini situation quickly got out of control. A report showing the pair holding hands at an Arizona resort at the end of March caused a stir. The New England Patriots coach and the NFL insider rejected the notion that they were anything more than friends. Fans, however, didn’t buy the explanation.
After The Athletic sidelined Russini and launched an investigation, the veteran reporter announced her resignation from the outlet. She cited all the speculation the pictures caused as the main reason.
With Russini seemingly out of the picture, the focus turned to Vrabel. The NFL decided whether to investigate and punish the coach.
NFL Makes Shocking Mike Vrabel Decision
On Friday, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league won’t review Mike Vrabel’s behavior under its personal conduct policy. It states that “players, coaches and executives are required to avoid conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League,” ESPN’s Ben Strauss wrote.
Many fans claimed that Russini’s alleged affair with Vrabel influenced the insider’s reports on AJ Brown potentially joining the New England Patriots.
All of that is speculation, but the noise seemed to affect The Athletic.
