Bull Rider Dylan Grant Dead at 24 After Rodeo Injury

Pro bull rider Dylan Grant has died after being bucked off and stepped on by a bull he rode at the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event.

The rodeo world is mourning one of their own.

Professional bull rider Dylan Grant has died after suffering fatal injuries while competing in the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event in Wharton, Texas April 3. He was 24.

His father, Wade Grant, said the bull his son was riding bucked him off and then stepped on him.

“He got his neck stepped on,” he told ABC News in an interview released April 4. “He ran out of the arena and straight to the ambulance with these injuries.”

Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association said in a statement medics had rushed the bull rider into an ambulance and began working to stabilize him, after which he was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, where he passed away.

“What happened to Dylan last night was very, very, very, very rare,” his dad said. “It was a freak accident.”

Wade said his son was “double tough” and “filled with kindness.”

Dylan is also survived by his mom Tiffany and brother Derek.

He also won the bull riding title at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo while also competing for the University of Wyoming rodeo team in 2021. Dylan graduated from the college in 2023 with a degree in Physical Education Teacher Education.

“The University of Wyoming Rodeo Team is heartbroken in learning of the passing of former student-athlete Dylan Grant, who tragically lost his life in a bull riding accident in Texas,” the group said in an April 4 statement on Instagram. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Dylan’s father, Wade, and Dylan’s mother Tiffany during this unthinkable time.”

Dylan was “a champion of life inside and outside of the arena,” the team continued, adding, “Once a Cowboy, Always a Cowboy.”
