Body of Child Found in Pond amid Search for Missing 3-Year-Old Boy Who Was Separated from Relative at Playground

The body of a child was found in a pond hours after a 3-year-old boy went missing from a playground in England.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, the Suffolk Constabulary shared that police dive teams have “sadly recovered the body of a child” in Decoy Pond, in Brantham, amid the search for Noah Woods, a toddler who became separated from a relative while visiting a playground the day before, per a news release.

While formal identification has yet to take place, Noah’s family was informed of the development. Police said that the discovery of the body is currently being treated as “not suspicious but unexplained.”

“First and foremost our thoughts are with Noah’s family and all who knew him,” Superintendent Tom Pearse said in a statement. “Since Noah was reported as missing vast number of our officers and staff have been deployed in numerous functions in the search for Noah and support for his family.”

At the time of his disappearance, Noah was believed to have run off down an alleyway beside the playground in Merriam Close, toward a newly constructed housing development, Suffolk Constabulary confirmed at the time.

“He looked happy and healthy as anything,” Michael Corley, who was working near the playground, said of the child, per the BBC.

Noah was wearing a white Bluey T-shirt, shorts and black Vans sneakers when he vanished. Police also said that he was non-verbal, had partial hearing loss and was undergoing an assessment for autism.

“As a result of these vulnerabilities, he will not respond to his name,” police said in a release.

The extensive search for Noah was supported by Norfolk Constabulary, the Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police, the National Police Air Service, Suffolk HART, SULSAR, Environment Agency, HM Coastguard, Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service.

“As a parent myself, I completely understand why people would want to help and such a response is one that typifies the strong sense of community and the heart-warming nature of Suffolk people that make the county such a special place,” Pearse emphasized. “I am sure you appreciate the family now need time, space and privacy and I thank you for your understanding in this.”
