The Princess of Wales’ brother has given Prince George a two-word message as he starts at Eton College. James Middleton has sent words of support to his nephew on his first day of secondary school.

Prince George has started at Eton College this week, following in his father’s footsteps. Eton is a private school in Berkshire for boys aged 13 to 18, costing £65,673 a year. Founded in 1440, it is the largest boarding school in England and is known for its notable alumni.

When the young prince arrived at Eton, he was greeted at the school’s historic Lupton’s Tower by Headmaster Simon Henderson and Provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge. The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a photo of him in his new uniform on social media.

On Instagram, his uncle, James Middleton, shared a short message of support, writing: “Big day” with a heart emoji. Princess Catherine’s former personal assistant and stylist also commented, saying, “Oh G!” with a heart.

When asked about Prince George’s first day of school, a spokesman for Prime Minister Andy Burnham said: “The PM would wish them all well as they embark on the next chapter of their journey.”

Eton’s head master, Simon Henderson, told the future king upon his arrival: “Welcome, good luck, enjoy it.”

Lessons at Eton continue on Saturday mornings, in addition to a range of sporting activities, including hockey, rowing, fencing, water polo, and more. The school grounds offer 19 cricket pitches.

The college also has its own language, with teachers known as Beaks, housemistresses known as Dames, and terms known as Halves. Students who play land sports are known as Dry Bobs, while those doing water sports are called Wet Bobs.

Joining in Year 9, George will be in his own bedroom, with a single bed, desk and shelves. All students have their own space, with rooms getting bigger as they progress through the school.

But the prince’s parents will be close by, with the Princess and Princess of Wales living in Forest Lodge, Windsor Great Park, just a 20-minute drive away.
