Kate Middleton and Prince William Set for Red Carpet Reunion with Tom Cruise

The Prince and Princess of Wales are set for a date night at a London movie premiere

Kate Middleton and Prince William are heading back to the red carpet with Tom Cruise.

It was announced on Monday, Sept. 14, that the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 44, will attend the world premiere of Cruise’s latest film, Digger, at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square on Tuesday, Sept. 22, supporting the U.K.’s Film and TV Charity.

At the premiere, Prince William and Princess Kate will be welcomed by representatives of the charity before walking the red carpet. They will then meet with members of the cast and creative team, including Cruise and filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

It will be a royal reunion for Cruise, 64, who previously met William and Kate at the U.K. premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in May 2022. The royal couple walked the red carpet with the Hollywood star and met other members of the cast, including Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly.

The plot of Digger has been kept tightly under wraps, but the film stars Cruise as “the most powerful man in the world” in “a comedy of catastrophic proportions,” according to Variety.

The cast also includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy.

The premiere will be hosted by Warner Bros. Pictures and the Film and TV Charity, and it will be the 73rd Royal Film Performance delivered by the charity in its over 100-year history. The last Royal Film Performance was the premiere of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II in November 2024, which was attended by King Charles, who took over as patron of the charity following the death of his mother and predecessor, Queen Elizabeth.

While not a patron of the Film and TV Charity, Prince William is President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), which supports and develops the production of film, TV and videos games in the U.K. Digger was filmed at Pinewood Studios, located in the English village of Iver Heath.

Cruise’s royal connections date back decades. He and his ex-wife Nicole Kidman mingled with the late Princess Diana at the 1992 premiere of their romantic drama Far and Away, and they later attended Diana’s funeral in 1997.

The actor also previously met the late Prince Philip in 2017 during a dinner marking the 75th Anniversary of The Outward Bound Trust at Buckingham Palace.

However, he may share the strongest bond with William, whom he also invited to a private screening of Top Gun: Maverick ahead of the official premiere, after hearing the prince was a fan of the 1986 original.

“We have a lot in common,” Cruise said of the royal at the premiere, according to My London. “We both love England, and we’re both aviators; we both love flying.”
