A devastating late-night collision near Derby has left four passengers dead and a fifth person seriously injured after a red Hyundai carrying five people veered from the carriageway and struck trees. Emergency services were called to the road between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 at around 11pm on Saturday. Two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene, while a baby girl was rushed to hospital but died a short time later. All four passengers were from Leeds. The 33-year-old driver survived with serious injuries and was taken to hospital before being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Specialist officers are now supporting the victims’ families as investigators work to establish how the car left the road. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone whose dashcam may have captured the vehicle or the moments before the crash.

Officers found a red Hyundai car, containing five people, had left the carriageway and crashed into some trees.

Two women and a man were pronounced dead at the scene, with a baby girl taken to hospital but sadly passed away a short while later.

Police have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Two women, aged 18 and 30, along with a 36-year-old man, were declared dead.

The three people, including the young girl, who are from Leeds in West Yorkshire, were passengers of the Hyundai car.

Specialist officers were deployed to support the relatives of those who lost their lives.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident but it has since been reopened.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The man, who is also from Leeds, has since been arrested.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who has any dash cam footage which may have captured the incident.”
