Prince George, 12, is nearly as tall as mum Kate on poignant visit to RAF base to mark of Armed Forces Day
PRINCE George and his mother Kate have appeared together in a touching video to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
The footage shows the future King joining the Princess of Wales on a visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
George, who turns 13 next month, was invited to sit in the cockpit of aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight during the visit.
He also met pilots, engineers and got a close-up look at historic military aircraft.
In a video posted to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account, George is seen to almost be the same height of his mum, who is 5ft 9in.
The online clip posted to the account’s 17.2 million followers came with a message paying tribute to Britain’s servicemen and women.
The post said: “Marking Armed Forces Day by reflecting on time spent with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby.
“Learning about the extraordinary history of these aircraft and meeting the pilots and engineers who keep their legacy alive.
“A powerful reminder of the courage, skill and dedication of those who serve, past and present.
“Thank you to all those who have served and continue to serve.”
Kate, who has been Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby since August 2023, was seen showing George around the Lincolnshire base as he learned more about military aviation.
The visit took place around two weeks ago but the footage was held back until today to coincide with Armed Forces Day.
It comes as George gradually begins learning more about the Armed Forces, of which he will one day become commander-in-chief as monarch.
Prince William revealed last year that his eldest son was a “potential pilot in the making” during a conversation with RAF personnel.
George is also understood to have been taking private flying lessons at White Waltham Airfield.
He has previously visited RAF bases with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis and attended the Royal International Air Tattoo with his family in 2023.
It is not the only time Kate has been spotted climbing into a fighter jet, as she was seen hopping into the seat of a fully armed £100million Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon last year.
Dress in a a stylish light grey fitted suit, she was toured around the site and shown the work it does as part of the Royal Air Force.
The princess even took the controls of a flight simulator and performed a loop the loop on her first visit back in 2023.
