Shocking moment LIGHTNING bolt rips through house during fierce thunderstorm before home is engulfed in flames
THIS is the shocking moment a bolt of lightning ripped through a family home during a thunderstorm before the property was engulfed in flames.
Dramatic footage captured the instant the strike hit the roof, triggering a devastating blaze that left the house in Carmarthenshire, Wales, severely damaged.
Maggie Day, 25, was filming the storm outside her home in the town of Ammanford when she recorded the lightning bolt striking her neighbour’s property.
The footage, filmed on May 27, shows a powerful bolt hitting the roof of a house across the road before a huge flash lights up the night sky.
Within moments, flames began to take hold of the property.
Further footage from the scene shows the home engulfed by fire as the blaze spread through the roof as emergency crews raced to the incident.
Firefighters battled the flames as thunder and lightning continued overhead.
Despite their efforts, the damage was severe and by the following morning the roof had completely caved in.
The fire also spread to a neighbouring property, leaving a trail of destruction behind.
Everyone inside the house escaped unharmed.
Maggie told Wales Live: “The thunder and lightning was like nothing I’ve seen before, so I decided to record it to capture the events, but caught the strike to my neighbour’s house.
“There were people in the house at the time but I saw them get out quickly.
“The fire brigade arrived within minutes and were able to put out the fire quickly.”
Residents described the storm as one of the most intense they had ever witnessed, with repeated lightning strikes and rolling thunder lighting up the sky for hours.
A spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 11.23pm on Wednesday, May 27, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Ammanford, Amman Valley, Llandeilo and Morriston fire stations were mobilised to an incident in Glanaman.
“The crews responded to a fire at a two-storey, semi-detached domestic property.
“The property had been struck by lightning which ignited a fire on the property’s roof.
“Significant fire damage was caused to the property and the fire spread to a neighbouring property.
“All persons were accounted for and no injuries were reported.”
