The Princess of Wales was wearing a sentimental piece of jewelry for the occasion

Kate Middleton sported a special piece of jewelry as she supported Prince William at a major royal event.

The Princess of Wales, 44, watched her husband and other members of the royal family take part in the Order of the Garter service at Windsor Castle on Monday, June 15.

For the occasion, Princess Kate sported a monochrome light yellow coat dress made in London by Patrick McDowell, topped with a matching wide-brimmed hat by Jane Taylor. Fabric for both pieces was woven by Stephen Walters and Sons in Suffolk.

She also picked a special pair of earrings from her jewelry box: the same ones she wore for her 2011 wedding to Prince William.

The earrings, crafted by London jeweler Robinson Pelham, were a bespoke gift from her parents for her wedding day. The diamond earrings feature an oak leaf stud suspending an acorn within a pear-shaped drop, nodding to the Middleton family crest.

The annual service takes place every year at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle to celebrate the oldest and most senior order of chivalry in Britain.

In addition to having royal roots tracing back to medieval times — when King Edward III started the Order of the Garter because he was inspired by tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table — but it was also a major milestone in Prince William and Princess Kate’s relationship.

Kate made her debut at the event in 2008, when her then-boyfriend William received his knighthood in the Order of the Garter. Her presence there was significant because it showed that Kate was being welcomed into the royal family fold, even years ahead of the couple’s engagement.

King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Order of the Garter wore traditional blue velvet robes and ostrich feather-plumed hats for the ceremony, where the monarch invests any new Companions with the Order’s insignia in the Throne Room of Windsor Castle. The Garter members and officers then attend a lunch hosted by the King before a service at St. George’s Chapel, where new Companions are installed.

After that ceremony, the group returns to the castle, riding in horse-drawn carriages.

The membership is exclusive to King Charles, some senior members of the royal family and 24 knights and ladies recognized by the monarch for their public service. Royals who are currently part of the Order of the Garter include Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Princess Alexandra, the Duke of Kent, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duchess of Gloucester.

Ousted from the group is the former Prince Andrew. King Charles stripped his brother of his royal titles and honors in 2025 in light of renewed scrutiny around Andrew’s ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The former Duke of York, now called Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has denied any wrongdoing.

Garter Day took place just two days after the royal family gathered in London for Trooping the Colour, the public celebration of the monarch’s birthday. Prince William and Princess Kate brought their three children to the event, where they rode in a horse-drawn carriage through the city streets and gave a wave from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The royal fun continues this week with Royal Ascot, an annual horse racing event attended by members of the family.
