Princess Diana’s bodyguard talks about Prince Harry’s security

Meghan Markle was urged to take a leaf out of Princess Catherine’s book, when it comes to her upcoming trip to Britain. The Duchess of Sussex is expected to arrive in Britain for the first time in four years early next week to support her husband for some of his engagements on his five-day trip for the one-year-to-go event for the Invictus Games in Birmingham.

While their official schedule has not yet been confirmed, and Harry said he won’t be bringing his family to London due to security fears, Meghan could still join her husband at engagements in Birmingham. Now, as the Duchess prepares for her grand return to Harry’s home country, a PR expert has given her a word of caution. Renae Smith, founder of PR and branding agency The Atticism, told the Daily Express that Meghan should let her husband “shine”.

She explained: “If I were advising her [Meghan Markle], my advice would be very simple: take the Princess of Wales approach for this trip.

“Show up, support your husband, be warm, gracious and present, but don’t try to own the narrative. Don’t give speeches unless absolutely necessary. Don’t create separate moments. Don’t make yourself the headline.”

Ms Smith added: “This is Harry’s event and Harry’s legacy. Let him shine. From a PR perspective, that would actually be one of the smartest things she could do.”

The trip comes amid a turbulent period regarding the couple’s security in the country.

Harry has been facing a legal challenge against the Home Office regarding his downgraded security while in the country.

Following their bombshell exit from the Firm six years ago, the Sussexes no longer receive armed police protection in the UK.

The Duke was waiting for a review by the Risk Management Board (RMB), part of the process by which the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) rules on his security requirements, but learned last Friday that the review had yet to take place.

However, he is still thought to be trying to find the safest way to bring his family to Britain.
