The Princess of Wales joined Charles II and Camilla at the special reception in London’s St James’s Palace. The Royals attended today’s reception following the family’s own cancer journeys.

Kate last year revealed she was in remission from cancer. While her father-in-law has not made the same declaration, his treatment schedule was reduced thanks to an early diagnosis and a positive response to treatment.

The event this evening is hosted by the King as patron of Cancer Research and marks the charity’s 125th anniversary and will see the royals meet researchers, clinicians volunteers and partners involved in Cancer Research UK’s prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

They were met by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, with the duke being a joint president of the charity.Kate, Camilla and Charles were shown immersive installations that showcases the work of Cancer Research UK.

The visual representations show how technological innovation is transforming research into the disease. Kensington Palace announced Kate’s attendance at the reception on Tuesday morning.

Both Charles and Kate were diagnosed with undisclosed types of cancer in 2024. Kate underwent chemotherapy and announced in January last year that she was remission.

She previously spoke about her experience in a World Cancer Day message in February and described the emotional impact of her illness. She said a cancer journey can involve “moments of fear and exhaustion” as well as periods of strength and recovery.

Kate has slowly eased back into royal duties since she announced her remission. She recently carried out her first overseas royal visit since facing cancer and headed over to Italy for a solo working trip as part of her early years work.

The King also carried out his historic visit to the US last month, where he managed to charm Donald Trump and delivered a widely praised address to Congress.

Cancer Research UK is credited with making major strides in survival rates over the decades with the charity itself noting survival has doubled in the country over the past 50 years. The charity puts it down to advances in research and clinical trials.

The King, Queen and Kate also met with several representatives and supporters of Cancer Research UK, including ex-Big Brother presenter Davina McCall.

After shaking hands, Davina told Kate it was an “absolute honour” to meet her. They discussed the TV presenter’s cancer journey and McCall later told the princess it had been “liberating” to talk about her own experience with cancer publicly.

The TV presenter revealed in November that she underwent surgery for breast cancer. Davina, 58, said she found a lump while checking herself and got it examined.
