The legendary Spanish matador who was horrifically gored in the rectum during a bullfighting match in Spain spoke out about the “immense pain” he endured from the gruesome wound.
Morante de la Puebla — known as the “King of Bullfighters” — underwent hours of surgery after his rear-end was completely severed during Monday’s ill-fated performance before a packed crowd at Seville’s Maestranza arena, in what he called “the most painful goring ever.”
“I was in immense pain, felt a lot of fear because I saw the bull had grabbed me and, well, I thought I was bleeding,” he said in a video posted to Instagram from his bed at a local hospital.
“By the time I got to the infirmary and saw that the bleeding was minimal, I relaxed quite a bit, but of course, it hurt a lot. Without a doubt, it was the most painful goring ever.”
The 46-year-old had already cleared three bulls when the fourth suddenly charged, forcing him to drop his cape — used to lure the animal — as he turned and took off with his back exposed, El Mundo reported.
The bovine drove the tip of its curved horn into the Puebla’s rectum in a humiliating defeat — causing a 4-inch tear that left him clutching himself before he was carried off the pitch by four other matadors.
The battered bullfighter — who underwent extensive surgery to repair his rectal wall and sphincter — said he’s barely slept and has no appetite as he begins a long road to recovery.
“The truth is, I’m in a lot of pain,” Puebla said in the video, adding that he’ll be receiving IV nutrition through a catheter — something he’s never experienced before.
“I’ve gone through a pretty normal night of little sleep. I’ve got no appetite, and I’m hoping to get through it with, well, with a bit of patience.”
