THE GREAT SUSSEX SELL-OFF: Meghan and Harry ‘lost the plot’ as insiders reveal they’ve burned every bridge in Hollywood and are ‘spiralling’ over mounting money woes
-
Insiders claim the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been blacklisted by the Hollywood elite, including fashion icon Anna Wintour and the Kardashian clan.
-
Meghan Markle is reportedly ‘spiralling’ as her commercial ventures fail to gain traction while the couple’s annual expenses hit an estimated $5 million.
-
Sources say the couple’s ‘unfortunate habit’ of falling out with powerful protectors—from Netflix bosses to billionaires Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez—has left them professionally isolated.
-
Despite the fallout, Harry and Meghan continue to lean on their ‘quasi-royal’ status to drive sales for luxury jams and $58 chocolates.

As the first Monday in May arrives—the most glittering night in the global fashion calendar—the absence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from the Met Gala has never been more deafening. While New York’s elite gather under the watchful eye of Vogue titan Dame Anna Wintour, Harry and Meghan remain thousands of miles away in Montecito, victims of what insiders describe as a “spectacular professional immolation”.
The couple, once the most sought-after names in the world, have reportedly burned through their final reserves of Hollywood goodwill. Sources close to the California circles that matter say the Sussexes have “truly lost the plot,” with Meghan allegedly in a tailspin as she realizes her carefully curated brand is failing to launch.
The Wintour of Their Discontent
![A source suggests Meghan has failed to make potentially useful friends in Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos, a source says. ‘She snubbed Lauren before the [Bezos] wedding,‘ they added](https://i.dailymail.com/1s/2026/05/01/16/108311239-15782955-image-a-41_1777648612659.jpg)
Perhaps the most damaging bridge burned is the one leading to Anna Wintour. The Vogue Global Editorial Director is said to have turned against Meghan as far back as 2019. The fallout allegedly stems from Meghan’s decision to side with former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful during a long-standing rivalry between the two editors.
“Anna hates her,” a source stated bluntly. “Meghan doesn’t want to pay, and never returns things”. Beyond fashion politics, Wintour—a staunch admirer of the Royal Family and a Dame herself—is said to have been repulsed by the Sussexes’ handling of ‘Megxit’. Without Wintour’s patronage, Meghan’s dreams of becoming an ambassador for high-fashion houses like Dior or Chanel remain firmly out of reach.
Snubbing the Billionaires
The list of alienated allies doesn’t stop at the fashion world. Meghan reportedly managed to offend Lauren Sanchez, the wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, by snubbing her before the couple’s wedding. According to sources, Meghan declined invitations from Sanchez because she deemed her “trashy”—a move that has effectively locked her out of the Bezos’ influential inner circle.
This alienation extends to the Kardashians, who are close to Sanchez. A row over social media photos posted by Kris Jenner—and allegedly ordered down by the Sussexes—has left the reality TV dynasty “over them”. For a couple trying to launch a lifestyle business on social media, losing the support of the most-followed family on the planet is a commercial catastrophe.

The $5 Million Panic
Behind the scenes of their ‘quasi-royal’ tours and glossed-over People magazine covers, the financial reality is reportedly grim. With a Montecito mansion to maintain, astronomical security costs, and a staff to pay, experts estimate the couple needs to clear at least $5 million a year just to stay afloat.
Meghan’s new brand, As Ever, is said to be in “test-and-learn mode,” but the products—including $58 chocolate caramels and $64 candles—have faced criticism for being ferociously priced. There are also signs of desperation; Meghan is now reportedly netting a 10% slice of sales by funnelling buyers toward the designers of her tour clothes via a third-party website.
“They don’t have a choice at this point,” an associate revealed. “They really need the money”.

The Netflix Exit
The most spectacular fallout, however, has been with Netflix. Six years after signing a mega-deal, the streaming giant is reportedly “done” with the duo. Tensions reached a boiling point after the Sussex team reportedly briefed against a Netflix executive. Even a peace-offering invitation from CEO Ted Sarandos went south when photos of the event were mysteriously pulled from Getty Images—allegedly because Meghan didn’t like how she looked.
As Harry prepares to return to the UK in July for the Invictus Games, he continues to insist he is “doing the very thing [he] was born to do”. But with Hollywood turning its back and the bank balance dwindling, the Sussexes are finding that being “half-in, half-out” of the monarchy has left them with no place to land.
