Princess Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi enjoyed a quiet Welsh getaway with their young daughters, Sienna and Athena, with the family’s escape captured in a video shared by Wern Holiday Cottages.

The Instagram clip offered a glimpse of a relaxed break, with scenes of a garden gathering, time beside the sea and an outdoor meal. The couple’s daughters joined their father for the trip, away from the formal occasions at which royal watchers usually see him.

“That feeling of having family all under the same roof for a few days,” the account captioned the footage, adding a sparkle emoji.

Words across the video echoed the sentiment: “The kind of holiday where your children and grandchildren are all under the same roof.”

The short montage captured the simple pleasures of a coastal holiday. In its opening scene, one of the daughters is crouched beside a dog on a garden path while adults gathered nearby.

Another sequence followed a vehicle down a track towards the sea, before the footage moved to the girls standing on rocks overlooking the water. A game of mini golf featured too, with a castle-topped headland visible across the bay.

The clip ended with food laid out on a long table outside a stone cottage, where guests helped themselves to an alfresco meal.

A separate post supplied from the same account showed a beach game, with two dogs joining the action on the sand. Its caption read: “Summer isn’t over yet.”

The account added: “The beaches are quieter, the evenings are still warm enough to eat outside, and life has just slowed down a little bit.”

The holiday destination also has a family connection. Wern Holiday Cottages is owned by Edoardo’s mother, Nikki Williams-Ellis, his stepfather, sculptor David Williams-Ellis, and David’s son, Jack.

Set between Porthmadog and Criccieth in North Wales, the estate includes Carregfelen, where Beatrice and Edoardo previously stayed with their family. The property sleeps up to 11 guests and features traditional interiors and a rose garden, with Criccieth Beach nearby.

Beatrice and Edoardo welcomed their eldest daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, in September 2021, before their younger daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose, arrived in January 2025.

Beatrice is also stepmother to Edoardo’s son Christopher Woolf, affectionately known as Wolfie, whom he shares with his former partner, architect Dara Huang. The couple married in 2020.

Although Beatrice has largely kept her daughters’ lives private, she has spoken about the experiences that shaped her approach to parenting, including her own school years and becoming a stepmother.

In a 2021 interview with HELLO!, while pregnant with Sienna, Beatrice discussed her experience of dyslexia and revealed that Edoardo was also dyslexic.

She explained that she regarded it positively, a perspective she would bring to supporting her own family. “And I think life is a little bit about the moments that make you; it’s the challenges that make you,” she told HELLO!

Beatrice revisited the subject during a 2023 appearance on the Lessons in Dyslexic Thinking podcast. “Talking about this subject is my favorite thing, because as a dyslexic who’s navigating the kind of mad world we live in, I am so grateful and lucky to have a dyslexic thinking mindset, because it definitely pushes me a little bit further to try and solve some of these challenges and try and help as much as I can,” she said.

Princess Beatrice’s bedtime tradition with Wolfie

Beatrice previously described becoming a stepmother as a “great honor”, writing about her relationship with Wolfie for the Evening Standard in 2021.

Reading together became a particularly meaningful activity during the pandemic. She revisited favourite childhood stories with him and helped him engage with books while he was learning at home.

Their shared enthusiasm continued as Wolfie grew older. Speaking in 2023 about reviewing entries for Oscar’s Book Prize, Beatrice explained how much they enjoyed the process.

“My stepson, who is now seven, and I eagerly look forward to receiving the books and going through them together,” she old Harper’s Bazaar.

What Princess Beatrice’s friend said about her family life

Beatrice’s close friend Gabriela Peacock offered another insight into the royal’s parenting in a 2024 interview with HELLO!.

The nutritionist described her as a naturally caring mother and stepmother, who took an active role in Sienna’s and Wolfie’s lives.

“She is extremely nurturing and involved with both kids’ lives,” Gabriela said. Gabriela also spoke warmly about Beatrice and Edoardo’s marriage, describing them as a supportive team, and said Sienna closely resembled her mother.

Princess Beatrice’s reflections on welcoming Athena

Following Athena’s premature birth in January 2025, Beatrice shared a candid account of the uncertainty she experienced during the final stages of her pregnancy.

Writing for Vogue that March, she recalled the relief of welcoming a healthy daughter after weeks of worry. The experience also informed her work as patron of Borne, which supports research into premature birth.

She wrote: “I want to do all I can to reassure those families whose babies might arrive early that they are not alone.”
